A visual storyteller on a lifelong\, transcendental quest to transform spirit into matter\, Mahoney seeks to strike a balance between color and form\, intuition and meaning.\nMahoney came to Claremont in 1950 to study art at Scripps College and honed her skills in the Millard Sheets Studio. She later earned her M.Ed and MFA from Claremont Graduate University in the 1960s. Thereafter Mahoney served as Professor of Art at Chaffey College for more than 30 years.\nThe exhibition is curated by the artist’s daughter Monica Lynne Mahoney.\n*************************************************\nVince Skelly: A Conversation with Trees\nRecent work by Claremont artist Vince Skelly. Carving tree trunks\, many harvested in the aftermath of the epic wind storm of January 2022\, Skelly explores the space between sculptural form and functional object.\nUsing wood from sustainable sources is always an important part of Skelly’s process. The storm offered\, not only a bountiful supply of wood but also an opportunity to create new life out of incredible destruction and loss.
